Clear, compassionate answers to the questions patients ask Dr. Fehmida Shaikh most often.
Is every patient suitable for laparoscopy?
Most are. Very large masses or some medical conditions may need an open approach.
How long does it take?
Most diagnostic hysteroscopies take 10–20 minutes; operative ones a little longer.
Is ultrasound safe for my baby?
Yes. Ultrasound uses sound waves, not radiation.
When do I need colposcopy?
Usually after an abnormal Pap smear or HPV test, or for unexplained bleeding after intercourse.
How should I prepare for a semen analysis?
Usually 2–5 days of abstinence is advised. The lab team will give you exact instructions.
Is it suitable for everyone?
Suitability is decided after examination; some conditions are better treated surgically.
