Frequently Asked Questions
Clear, compassionate answers to the questions patients ask Dr. Fehmida Shaikh most often.
When should I schedule my first antenatal visit?
We recommend booking your first antenatal consultation as soon as you confirm your pregnancy, ideally around 6 to 8 weeks. Early evaluation allows Dr. Fehmida Shaikh to confirm the gestational sac via ultrasound, review essential blood work, and start vital prenatal supplements like folic acid.
Does Dr. Fehmida Shaikh encourage and support normal delivery?
Yes, absolutely. Our primary clinical objective is always a safe, healthy normal vaginal delivery whenever medically indicated. Dr. Shaikh closely assesses pelvic adequacy, fetal well-being, and maternal health throughout labour to support natural birth, while ensuring surgical readiness if complications arise.
What routine scans and investigations are conducted throughout pregnancy?
Standard monitoring includes an early viability scan (6–8 weeks), NT/NB screening scan (11–13 weeks), anomaly ultrasound scan (18–20 weeks), regular maternal blood and urine profiles, glucose tolerance tests for gestational diabetes, and third-trimester growth and Doppler studies.
Are Caesarean sections (C-sections) performed at Fehmida Hospital?
Yes. Both planned (elective) and emergency Caesarean deliveries are performed in our fully equipped surgical theatre with dedicated anaesthetic support and complete neonatal resuscitation readiness.
Can I use cashless health insurance or TPA for delivery?
Yes. Fehmida Hospital coordinates with major insurance companies and Third Party Administrators (TPAs) for cashless hospitalisation and reimbursement claims for obstetric admissions. Our helpdesk assists you with pre-authorisation paperwork.
What postpartum and newborn follow-up care is provided?
Post-delivery care includes maternal wound assessment, lactation and breastfeeding guidance, pelvic recovery check-ups, infant health evaluation, and advice on postpartum contraception and emotional wellness at 2 and 6 weeks post-delivery.
What should I bring when coming in for delivery?
Please bring your antenatal record file, previous ultrasound scans, government photo ID, health insurance/TPA card, personal toiletries, and comfortable clothing for both mother and newborn.
